Michigan Football: Another 2023 disappointment for Wolverines

Michigan football suffered another setback in the 2023 recruiting class on Friday, plus the latest on five-star recruit Nyckoles Harbor.

More than a few times in this 2023 recruiting cycle, it has seemed like Michigan football was going to seal the deal with a recruit, only to see a competitor come in and steal away the momentum.

Well, it looks to have happened again to the Wolverines as a three-star defensive tackle My’Keil Gardner seemed to be a Michigan football lean not that long ago.

Gardner took an official visit to Michigan this summer and the No. 533 overall prospect in the On3 consensus rankings out of Arizona seemed like a good bet for Michigan’s 2023 class.

However, Oregon was always looming and the Ducks have the advantage of proximity. After it was expected for Gardner to be on campus, he is now reportedly going to visit Eugene, which has led to a slew of expert projections for Oregon, which now has a 96 percent chance to win his commitment according to the On3 prediction machine.

It’s a bummer for Michigan football but not a backbreaker. There are tons of big-time recruits on campus this weekend and none bigger than five-star QB Jadyn Davis.

Speaking of five-star targets, Nyckoles Harbor, the five-star athlete, is easily the top target for the Wolverines in the 2023 class and in some good news, U-M has become the leader according to the On3 prediction machine with a 33-percent chance of landing the freakish track star.

There was hope that Harbor would come for the recruiting BBQ this weekend. He is, however, taking unofficial visits to South Carolina and LSU.

This is according to Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports. But before you panic, Wiltfong notes that Harbor had a track in the area, so these visits might not be all that important.

LSU seems like one of the top contenders and is second behind Michigan football with a 26-percent chance according to the On3 prediction machine.

Harbor is the No. 9 overall athlete and will be a game-changer wherever he goes. Despite visits this weekend, Michigan still has a really good chance. As good a chance as anyone.
